Are You Creative at the Office?

One way to set yourself apart at work is to be creative.  According to a recent Wall Street Journal article, anyone can be creative.  In this article, Jonah Leher explains that creativity isn’t a magical trait that some are born with, but a skill that can be developed.

Are you creative?  Many hiring managers consider this to be one of the top reasons to hire or promote someone.  It shows that you have iniaitive or the ability to lead.

Here are a few ideas to foster your creativity:

  1. Seek diversity in your relationships, both professionally and personally.  Connect with people from other cultures and professions.  Get out of your cubicle and network.
  2. Take time to relax and have fun.
  3. Be dedicated to the project you are working on at the moment. Treat it as if you own the company or the business.
  4. Are you intutive? I bet you are.  Learn to listen and trust your gut.
  5. Steve Jobs advises to go out and seek new adventures.
  6. Discover your passions.  Go out and do what you love.
